Strawberry Shortcake

  • 2 1/2 Cups AP Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 2 TSP Baking Powder
  • 1/4 TSP Salt
  • 1/3 Cup All Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 Egg
  • 2/3 Cup Milk
  • 2 Cups Heavy Cream
  • 2 TBS Sugar
  • 1/4 TSP Vanilla
  • 4 Cups Strawberries
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Water

Procedure: In a mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.  Cut in shortening and make a well.  In another mixing bowl whisk together egg and milk.  Incorporate all ingredients and place in a greased and floured baking pan on 350 degrees for 18-22 minutes.  In a mixing bowl, mix together heavy cream, 2 TBS sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks are formed.  Bring 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a pot to make a simple syrup and let cool.  Cut strawberries accordingly and place in cool simple syrup. Slice bread and place on top whipped cream and strawberries.  Enjoy!
