Red Velvet Cocoa Cake

  • 1/2 Cup butter softened
  • 1 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1 TSP vanilla extract
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 TBS red food coloring
  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 Cup cocoa
  • 1 TSP salt
  • 1 Packet chocolate jello
  • 1 Cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 TSP baking soda
  • 1 TBS white vinegar  

Procedure:  Grease & flour 2-9inch cake pans.  Cream butter, sugar & vanilla.  Once combined, add eggs and food coloring and blend well.  In a mixing bowl, stir flour, cocoa, jello, and salt.  Add dry mixture alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture.  Stir baking soda into vinegar and fold into batter.  Pour batter into prepared pans and bake at 325 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
